for Adoption from Mutts Matter Rescue
Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue! By thoroughly completing this adoption application, you can help us to ensure that all of our dogs will be placed in homes that are best suited to their individual needs. Please note that we do NOT place dogs on a first-come-first-serve basis. Rather, we asses our dogs personalities and their needs, and then match them with a forever home based on the best fit for the dog.
Please keep in mind, there is absolutely no guarantee made or implied that any person requesting to adopt a dog being fostered through MMR, or posted on MMR's Website, will be allowed to adopt an MMR DOG. MMR reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued dog in its care. Before you complete this application, please consider the info below, and review our
What can I expect after I apply? Please understand that our organization is staffed completely by hard-working volunteers. The processing of your application may take longer based on the number of applications being received and incomplete applications will not be considered. Your application, and a good vet reference, will be used to determine whether we contact you to begin the approval process, which includes
a telephone interview, reference checks, and a home visit. Not all applicants will be contacted. PLEASE realize that several homes are interviewed for each dog to ensure the best possible match. While we welcome you to apply for a specific dog, we cannot guarantee that your application will be considered for that dog.
How to adopt a Mutts Matter Rescue Dog:
Adoption Application: Interested adopters should fill out an
adoption application. You can select a dog now or you can submit for
pre-approval if you haven't picked out a dog yet. Only one app is
required and it applies for all dogs.
Reference Checks: MMR will call the applicant’s veterinarian to
ensure that previous pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and
well cared for. MMR will also call references listed on the application.
Those are done BEFORE an adopter is contacted.
Application Screener: Approved Applicants will be assigned a
volunteer adoption counselor, who will review the application and have a
conversation with each applicant to determine his/her needs and
Renters/Condo Owners: For renters, MMR will check with an
applicant's landlord to ensure that dogs are permitted, and that the dog
of interest wouldn’t violate any size or breed restrictions. We also
review condo association rules regarding pets.
Home Visit: A
volunteer from MMR will visit each applicant’s home to see the
environment where the dog will live, and answer any questions the
applicant might have. Once this is completed, you will be contacted by
an Adoptions Coordinator to set up a meet and greet with a potential MMR
dog. Unless meeting one of our dogs at an adoption event, you cannot
meet a dog in a foster home prior to approval.
Adoption Contract: If the applicant is approved for adoption, MMR
and the prospective adopter will enter into an adoption contract. The
applicant will be required to pay an adoption fee, which is donation to
MMR. This helps cover/defer our costs of spay/neutering (if age
appropriate), microchipping, vaccinations, and any other veterinary
attention needed while in our care.
What if I live outside of the Virginia, Maryland, or DC Area? Due to limited resources, we concentrate our adoptions in these areas. Applications outside of our immediate service area will be considered on a case by case basis as resources allow.
